HVAC System Design Team This team will design the HVAC systems for the new two-story educational building in Singapore. This detailed design will include all air distribution systems, fans, air handling units, coils, terminal units, heating equipment, cooling equipment, and building automation systems. This team can use the heating and cooling loads and the system selection from the HVAC System Selection Team or perform its own load calculations and select the system deemed appropriate for this application. Equipment should be coordinated with space needs and with the architectural plans. Mechanical rooms are shown on the architectural plans provided by ASHRAE. If additional space is required or the space needs to be in a different location, the team should indicate this.

The evaluation of projects in this category will be based on the following criteria:
All students regardless of their geographic location are encouraged to enter the competition. The judges recognize that some students may not have the experience necessary to accurately design a complete heating and cooling system. To ensure that students are not penalized for this inexperience, the scoring focuses more on the student’s approach and methodology then on actual results.
Estimated operating and maintenance costs. This should include demand charges and monthly distribution of energy usage by fuel type.
The impact of the mechanical system on the environment through the potential use of natural resources (land, energy, water, building materials, etc.) and pollution control (refrigerants, flue gases, global warming, etc.).
The success of the HVAC system designed in providing a comfortable and healthy interior environment. This category should also address life safety, lavatory exhaust, and filtration requirements.
How creatively and successfully the design meets the project objectives.
How well the team communicates its results.
